Located in Perry Barr, just outside the city center is the Alexander Stadium is an international-standard athletics venue. Used for the Commonwealth Games when it will host the athletics and the opening and closing ceremonies.

Capacity is increased from 12,700 to 20,000 to support international events. The home of the world-renowned Birchfield Harriers Athletics Club. The Stadium has played host to major events, including The Diamond League series, including the British Grand Prix.

About the Alexander Stadium

One of the central locations to host the Commonwealth Games. The Alexander Stadium will host events such as the Opening and Closing Ceremonies.

Athletes are also expected to compete at track events between August 2 and 7 at the venue renovated before the Games.

With the brand new West Stand in place, the Stadium can accommodate 18,000 people in its present configuration, in addition to temporary stands that will boost the capacity to 30,000 during the Games—first inaugurated on July 26, 1976.

The Stadium was transformed into the venue for UK Athletics in 2011 following an overhaul that saw the creation of a seating capacity of 5,000 in the East Stand on the back straight. Since hosting its inaugural Diamond League Meeting that year, the Stadium continued to host races like the British Grand Prix up until its closing to allow for the renovation.

Post-Games and the ongoing staging of major athletic events. The Stadium will be an important place for social and recreational activities in Birmingham’s newly developed Perry Barr district, which is getting more than £700 million in investments ahead of Birmingham 2022. 

The opening time is at Alexander Stadium. Opening Information: Alexander Stadium is open for two hours before the session starts.

There is no parking in or around the venue, except for the limited blue badge parking, which must be pre-booked.
