Alexander Stadium
About
Located in Perry Barr, just outside of the city centre, the Alexander Stadium is an international-standard athletics venue and used for the Commonwealth Games when it will host the athletics as well as the opening and closing ceremonies.
Capacity is increased from 12,700 to 20,000 in order to support the international events. The home of the world-renowned Birchfield Harriers Athletics Club, the stadium has played host to major events, including The Diamond League series, including the British Grand Prix.
About the Alexander Stadium
accessibility: In order to facilitate access to the entire site, an internal as well as accessible golf buggy service externally will be in operation. Also, there will be an Accessible Golf Bus that will connect the Blue Badge Parking as well as the the venue. The venue also has restrooms that change places which can be found in the West Stand.
Late Finish Sessions
Opening Ceremony, Thursday 28 July, 7PM – 10.30PM / Athletics and Para Athletics Session, Tuesday 2 August, 6.30PM-10PM / Athletics and Para Athletics Session, Sunday 7 August, 6.30PM and 9.30PM / Closing Ceremony, Monday 8 August, 8PM – 10PM
Due to the closing times during these events, you must make sure to plan your trip to home well in advance. Shuttle services are available for you to return towards Birmingham City Centre, but they’ll be crowded, so make sure you allow enough time for connecting to the next service as well as be mindful of the last services.
